About
Ayush Tyagi is an interdisciplinary performance artist based in New Delhi, India. His primary mediums are theatre and cinema, with specialisations in acting, physical theatre and screenwriting. Ayush’s work is driven by a visual approach to narrative styles, focusing on creating original pieces that delve into the human condition and its existential conflicts, resonating deeply with contemporary socio-political themes.
Ayush's educational background includes formal training in film and television production with a specialisation in screenwriting. He began his acting journey at the Shri Ram Centre of Performing Arts (2018), earning a certificate in an intensive program. His thirst for knowledge led him to explore contemporary performance arts, resulting in a certification from Moving Parts India (2023-2024), a British-based arts company, in physical theatre, clowning, and contemporary dance.
With nearly six years of extensive training and performance experience, Ayush has collaborated with some of the most prominent names in the Indian theatre fraternity. His notable stage achievements include: Kamaani Auditorium(2018): Starred in "Shivratri," one of New Delhi's biggest productions. Shri Ram Centre of Performing Arts(2018): Delivered a compelling performance in "Dharmyudh." National School of Drama's Bharat Rang Mahotsav(2019): Captivated international audiences with "Amli."
Ayush's artistic journey extends beyond traditional venues. He has been one of the core founding members of the multidisciplinary art collective “Buga Buga Collective”, bringing devised productions to life across India: Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh(2021): "FAQs," a physical theatre production. Goa(2023): "Yellow Conversation," a fusion of theatre and contemporary dance, directed by Annika Jäger and co-written by Ayush.
Expanding his repertoire into film, Ayush played a lead role in the festival-selected short film "Agomoni - The Arrival," streaming on Addatimes(2019), a Bengali platform.
As a screenwriter, Ayush has contributed to NB Media Productions(2020) in New Delhi, crafting detailed scripts for their true crime documentary department. He has also worked on various independent film projects, showcasing his versatility and depth in storytelling.
Unique aspects of Ayush's artistic journey include his relentless pursuit of growth and exploration. He thrives on challenging himself, embracing discomfort as a catalyst for personal and artistic development. His travels across India for three years, collaborating with artists from diverse cultural, economic, and socio-political backgrounds, have enriched his artistic repertoire, making it exceptionally rich and diverse.
Research and experimentation are integral to Ayush's artistic style, keeping him curious and continually pushing the boundaries of his craft. Recently, he has started exploring forms of immersive and site-specific theatre performances, leading him to be part of "Helter-Skelter," (2024) an experimental performance that includes showcasing independent films, visual art, and clown performances.
Through his innovative approach and commitment to excellence, Ayush Tyagi continues to create thought-provoking works that challenge and inspire audiences, contributing profoundly to the world of performance art.
